Canada’s 2009 Christkindl Market – A Festival of German Culture
The Christkind, Kristkind or "Christ Child" is the traditional Christmas gift-bringer in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
The 13th annual Christkindl Market will be happening from December 3rd to the 6th in Kitchener, Ontario.
The 4 day festival features traditional German music and dance performances, a children’s craft centre along with a model railway display, a live Nativity scene, and over 70 merchants and vendors.
In addition, a candle light procession will be held prior to the opening ceremony which begins on December 3rd at 5:30pm. Participants can pick up a candle and holder at the event free of charge or bring their own homemade lantern.
The award winning festival was established in 1996 by founder Tony Bergmeier, to attract tourism into downtown Kitchener. Today, over 35,000 visitors from across North America come to experience the colorful and unique festival.
Admission is free.

Hello Hungarian Girl, the event helps support many great causes too. For example,thousands of dollars each year are raised for Children’s Wish Foundation. Visitors make a donation when they submit their ballot to WIN a trip for 3 to Germany (Fligth with Bullas Travel, overnight at Maritim Hotel Berlin, Rail Europe passes… Plus, this year the proceeds of the sale of the Christkindl Market mugs gift pak will be donated to the German Language School Concordia in Kitchener – NA’s largest German School with over 600 students attending each year.
