Christkindlmarkt on the Rathausplatz – Vienna’s Largest Christmas Market

Christkindlmarkt on the Rathausplatz, is Vienna's largest and oldest Christmas market.
Vienna’s largest and oldest Christmas market will be happening from November 14th – December 24th on the Rathausplatz (City Hall Square).
The yuletide market features traditional carol-singing, over 140 stands selling seasonal crafts and gifts, artistically-arranged displays, festive foods and drinks, fairground rides, and lots more.
From November 27th and onwards, visitors can mingle to the sounds of traditional brass bands as they perform against the backdrop of the magnificent Christmas tree from 8:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The festival also offers a Christmas Workshop inside City Hall where young visitors can make handmade crafts or attempt in the preparation of typical Austrian Christmas cookies.
More than 3 million people including some 500,000 overseas visitors attend the festival each year.

Looks lovely! But the Chriskindlmarkt reminds me:
I love how we took Christkindl (lit. the Christ Child) from Europe, mispronounced and mistranslated it into Kris Kringle in North America. Then somehow Kris Kringle becomes Santa Claus. We have taken the baby Jesus and turned him into a fat man with a red coat! Ah language.
