Hungarian is a very unique and complex language. It belongs to the Finno-Ugric language group related to Finnish, Estonian and a number of other minority languages spoken in the Baltic states and northern European Russia eastward into central Siberia. However, it’s origins are still in matter of dispute.

Although, Hungarian may not be an easy language to learn for foreigners especially for English-speaking people. A few basic Magyar phrases can make a big difference while travelling in Hungary. Hungarians are very proud of their language and will be pleased to hear others speaking it.

The following is a list of common Hungarian words and phrases.
