Treasures from Budapest at The Royal Academy of Arts

Raphael’s Virgin and Child With John The Baptist - known as the Esterhazy Madonna.

The Royal Academy’s Treasures from Budapest: European Masterpieces from Leonardo to Schiele will be on display from 25th September until 12th December 2010.

The exhibition comprises of works from the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, with additional key loans from the Hungarian National Gallery. It features over 200 works and includes paintings, drawings and sculptures from the early Renaissance to the twentieth century. Selected works by artists include Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, El Greco, Rubens, Goya, Manet, Monet, Schiele, Gauguin and Picasso. 

One of the highlights of the exhibition is Raphael’s ‘Virgin and Child with St John the Baptist’, 1508 (known as The Esterházy Madonna). Most of the pieces have not been previously shown in the UK.
