Germany builds monument celebrating country’s reunification

A giant seesaw made from glass and metal will be placed in central Berlin to commemorate Germany’s 1990 reunification.
Culture Minister Bernd Neumann announced earlier this week that officials were backing the proposal for the memorial, entitled “Citizen’s Movement”.
It will carry the inscription: ”Wir sind das Volk” (We are the people) and “Wir sind ein Volk” (We are one people). The monument will also depict iconic images from the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
Visitors will be able to walk along the monument as it sways from side to side representing the democratic process and the peaceful revolution in East Germany.
The monument is due to be built over the next three years.
