Hungary bans smoking at public places

| April 27, 2011 | 0 Comments

Hungary will implement a strict anti-smoking law starting in 2012 after the measure received overwhelming parliamentary approval earlier this week.

The law is to go into effect on January 1, 2012 in all public institutions including on public transport vehicles, at stations, underground pedestrian passages and in playgrounds. Cafes, bars and resturants must also comply with the new law with the expection of open-air sections or terraces.

Hungarian State health authority will fine violators after a three-month grace period. Individuals smoking in forbidden areas will be fined up to 30000 forints (about €113).
