This past weekend, Rubin Art, held a special event in Toronto to celebrate Herend’s 160 anniversary of its Victoria collection.

Founded in 1826 in a small town in western Hungary, Herend is a leading producer of luxury hand painted and gilded porcelain.

It’s most well-known collection is the Victoria pattern named after Queen Victoria who purchased the original set in 1851 at the World Fair in London, where the factory’s exhibit won a golden medal.  A similar pattern for a dinnerware set from the collection was also made for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding this year.

On display at the event were various items including dinnerware sets, vases, figurines, baskets and decorative ornaments.

In 2008, Rubin Art opened a brand store specializing in Herend products for the Canadian market.

Here are some of photos of the event that took place at the Coffee Mill.

This Chinese-inspired pattern was created for the first World Fair, held in London in 1851, where it caught the attention of Queen Victoria, who then ordered pieces adorned with the pattern.

The head of this large statue depicts the famous Venetian mask of a plague doctor also known as medico della peste.

A bonbonniere trimmed in gold. The factory has produced some 12,000 different types of handmade objects and ornaments.

Ornamental egg holder.

A rooster and hen figurine. Herend first started producing figurines in the 1930's.
