Chimney Cake NYC Bakery
Opened in 2011, Chimney Cake NYC Bakery is offering a taste of Transylvania to the city with its delightful chimney cakes (kürtoskalács), a pastry known for its crispy sugar crust and distinctive cylinder shape.
Chef and Owner Anna Kosmas brought her tradition from Harghita County, a predominantly Hungarian town in eastern Transylvania. She immigrated to New York in 2002 and nine years later opened the bakery in Long Island City with the help of her family.
Kozma makes everything by hand using fresh ingredients in an open-air kitchen. Among the different variations are walnut, coconut, almond, cinnamon, and chocolate as well as savory kinds like ham and cheese.
Kozma also serves a variety of sweet traditional Hungarian treats like poppy seed and walnut rolls (beigli) and crescent filled cookies (kifli).

I love chimney cakes! I hope to visit NYC soon, and I think I will have to stop at this bakery. Thanks for posting something about Hungarian culture in the States!
Thanks Scarlett! Hope you’ll be able to visit the bakery soon. It’s a really great place.
I cannot believe my eyes! Mrs Kozma Anna was our classmate during the highschool and indeed this chimney cake is something traditional here! Thank you so much for writing about her, we are very proud to hear so many nice things about her… I will have to ask her if she needs some help. This was a joke of course. Say Hello to Anna from her schoolmates!
