Chimney Cake NYC Bakery

Opened in 2011, Chimney Cake NYC Bakery is offering a taste of Transylvania to the city with its delightful chimney cakes (kürtoskalács), a pastry known for its crispy sugar crust and distinctive cylinder shape.

Chef and Owner Anna Kosmas brought her tradition from Harghita County, a predominantly Hungarian town in eastern Transylvania. She immigrated to New York in 2002 and nine years later opened the bakery in Long Island City with the help of her family.

Kozma makes everything by hand using fresh ingredients in an open-air kitchen. Among the different variations are walnut, coconut, almond, cinnamon, and chocolate as well as savory kinds like ham and cheese.

Kozma also serves a variety of sweet traditional Hungarian treats like poppy seed and walnut rolls (beigli) and crescent filled cookies (kifli).
